Academic Standing
Good Academic Standing
LCOOU is committed to upholding high academic standards and supporting student success. To remain in Good Academic Standing, students must maintain a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and successfully complete at least 67% of attempted coursework each semester.
Academic Warning
Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 for one semester or fail to meet the required course completion rate will be placed on Academic Warning. While on warning, students must meet with an academic advisor to develop a plan for improvement.
Academic Probation
If a student remains below a 2.0 GPA for two semesters or continues to fail to meet the required course completion rate, they will be placed on Academic Probation. Students on probation may have restrictions on their course load and will be required to participate in academic support programs to improve their performance.
Academic Suspension
Failure to show academic progress while on probation may result in Academic Suspension, which requires the student to take a mandatory leave of absence for one semester before seeking reinstatement. Suspended students may reapply for enrollment and must demonstrate readiness to meet academic requirements.
Academic Dismissal
If a student continues to fail to meet academic requirements after returning from suspension or does not adhere to reinstatement conditions, they may face Academic Dismissal. Dismissed students may reapply under special circumstances or appeal their dismissal.
Appeal Process
Students placed on suspension or dismissal have the right to appeal their status by submitting a written petition to the Chief Academic Officer within 10 days of notification. The appeal must include an explanation of the circumstances that affected academic performance and a plan for improvement. The committee will review the petition and make a final decision.
