Student Handbook

Transfer Credit

Transfer credits become applicable to a LCOOU degree program only after the student has been admitted as a degree-seeking student.

The transfer evaluation process may take up to 2 weeks. Once completed your degree audit will be updated showing how your courses will apply toward program and degree requirements. Review this information carefully. If you believe there is an error in the credits transferred, ask for a review.  All questions regarding the transfer of credit appeal process can be directed to the Registrar at Registrar@lco.edu.

Credit for course work taken at other institutions will be transferred subject to the following considerations:

  1. Institution must be regionally or nationally accredited.
  2. Only course in which a grade of “C” or better (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) was earned will be considered for transfer. For graduate programs, a minimum grade of “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) is required.
  3. Courses must be equivalent in content and level to those offered at the LCOOU.
  4. Program specific courses transfer per the discretion of the program director.
  5. Pass/Fail courses will generally not be accepted unless it can be verified that a “pass” is equivalent to a “C” or better.
  6. Students may be required to provide course syllabi, description, or other documentation to determine equivalency.
  7. Courses earned ten or more years before the transfer request are not accepted unless approved by the program director.
  8. Developmental and/or remedial credits (typically numbered less than 100/1000) will not transfer.
  9.  Lower-level courses cannot substitute for higher-level courses; however, higher-level courses can substitute for lower-level courses. For example, 100-level courses cannot substitute for 200 level courses, but 200-level courses can substitute 100-level courses
