EDU 349 Methods of Ojibwe Language Arts
This course provides current and prospective Ojibwe language immersion instructors an opportunity to study the Ojibwe language from a perspective not found in a traditional language class. Special attention will be paid to the vocabulary and discourse specific to the Ojibwe language immersion classroom. Students will explore the notion of proficiency development focusing on the specific contrasts between majority language proficiency and endangered minority languages. Structural differences between Ojibwe and English will be exemplified as students are introduced to a number of selected grammatical topics refining and enhancing their translation abilities between the two languages, ultimately improving their skills for curriculum development and Ojibwe language immersion teaching.
