HTH 107 Wellness, Health & Nutrition
This course provides an introduction to personal health, wellness, and nutrition. Topics of study will include mental health including mindfulness, spiritual well-being, sleep hygiene, and stress management; violence and injury prevention; communication and personal connection; reproductive health including reproductive choices, STI prevention, and healthy partner relationships; substance use including alcohol, tobacco, and other illicit drugs; nutrition including healthy diets and food resources; healthy weight maintenance including exercise, body image, and overall physical fitness; disease prevention; aging and death; and environmental health. Special consideration will be given to behavioral changes, self-assessment of wellness, and informed decision making. Different cultural ideologies of health will be considered including indigenous perspectives.
