ECE ECE 223 Children's Literacy & Lit
The course focuses on the research-based principles and practices for language and literacy development of children aged birth through eight. Emphasis is given on using a developmentally appropriate approach in teaching practices. Students learn how to use children's literature to engage children in the domains of language arts (phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, comprehension, language production, and print concepts) through shared/guided reading experiences. This course includes the fundamental application of skills and strategies for organizing and implementing instruction for exceptional learners. Additionally, students participate in a service-learning project exploring the teacher's role in promoting family literacy through Ojibwe storytelling.
